Whitechapel Gallery is, in my view, the brightest star in London’s heavily populated east end art scene. Conveniently located next door to Aldgate East tube station, the building overlooks two very different worlds: to the west the affluent city of London and to the east, the largely rundown borough of Tower Hamlets.

The gallery tries its best to exhibit art that appeals to residents of both worlds and, in fact, everybody else in between. A typical Sunday afternoon would suggest that it has been successful in doing this, as wandering around its two floors and various different rooms are families, couples, young people, old people, art connoisseurs and those who just like a nice-looking painting.

With work spanning continents as well as media, and most exhibitions free to visit, everybody is bound to see something that they like.
